Pouringdown: Seven Maps

Barton Springs, TX

I live in Austin, Texas, where a beautiful natural springs, Barton Springs, is deeply identified with the city. It is the place where young and old have been hanging-out for generations. However, Austin--where we have a ubiquitous mantra"Keep Austin Weird" -- is changing, and development is threatening the integrity of the Springs.

Recently, a large corporation built its headquarters on the re-charge zone; this and other developments have disheartened those who think that this symbol of the city (and the source of drinking water for over 50,000)is not going to make it.

I think Daniel should interview folks that swim at Barton's, should swim at Barton's himself (and film underwater), perhaps spend a day outside of Austin and capture the area which is the beautiful hill country and the source of the water, and maybe even interview a hydrologist or a developer. Barton Springs could be filmed as all beauty under the cypress trees or could be presented as the thing that might be lost in the inexorable move to "pave over paradise."
